Baselworld 2014: Seiko Prospex “Monster” Watches in Black PVD, SRP581 and SRP583

Baselworld 2014 saw the announcement by Seiko to they will distribute its famous Prospex line outside of Japan from this year onwards. With this announcement, Seiko will be releasing two new “Monsters”. This time however, these “Monsters” will be under the Prospex line.

The Prospex Air Diver 200 m “Monster” will have the same specifications as the other Monster watches powered by the 4R36 movement. Its distinguishing features will be new case colours as well as the redesigned Prospex logo on the dial. Two models are available. The SRP581K1 has a black case and blue coated bezel, along with a blue minute hand, and is on a black rubber strap while the SRP583K1 has a black case and bezel, along with a gold hands and a gold crown, on a black coated bracelet.

By making these “Monsters” under the Prospex line, Seiko has created two classes of Monsters. I believe these will be the premium version. Unfortunately, the differentiation is too minute for me to accept the premium.

To be fair to consumers, Seiko should at least consider replacing the Hardlex crystal with Sapphire crystal. For more info, please visit seikowatches.com
